A onça que foi abatida pelo exército nesta segunda-feira (20) após a passagem da tocha olímpica em Manaus e havia participado do evento antes de ser morta não tinha autorização para estar no revezamento.
The ounce was shot down by army on this Monday (20th) after the changing of Olympic torch in Manaus and had participated in the event before being killed didn't have authorization to be in the rotation.
O Ipaam (Instituto de Proteção Ambiental do Amazonas) afirmou que apenas um dos animais, Simba, uma onça macho, tinha autorização para ser exibida no evento. A informação foi passada por Marcelo Garcia, gerente de fauna do órgão, que regulamenta o cuidado a animais silvestres em cativeiro no Estado do Amazonas.
Ipaam (Protection environment institute of Amazonas) affirmed only one out of two animals, Simba, a male ounce, had the authorization to be exhibited in the event. The information was passed by Marcelo, manager of wildlife agency, who regulates the caution of wild animals in captivity in the state of Amazonas.
Juma pertencia ao 1º Batalhão de Infantaria de Selva, mas foi exibida perto de um zoológico militar ao lado de seu cativeiro. Logo após o evento, no qual ela posou para fotos acorrentada ao lado da tocha olímpica, Juma ameaçou uma fuga, rapidamente contida por seus tratadores.
Juma belonged to the first Jungle infantry of forest, but was exhibited near of a militant zoo near of his or her captivity. Afterwards the events, in which she posed for photos chained next to Olympic torch, Juma threatened a flee, rapidly contained by his/her treaters.
Horas depois, fugiu novamente, recebeu tranquilizantes, mas segundo o Exército, ameaçou atacar um de seus tratadores e precisou ser abatida.
Some hours after, flee again, received tranquilizers, but according to army, threatned attacking on of his treaters and needed to be killed.
Os militares disseram que vão apurar as circunstâncias da morte do animal, mas o Ipaam já afirmou que eles podem ser multados por usarem Juma em um evento público sem autorização.
The militants said they will investigate the circumstances of the death of animal, but Ipaam already affirmed they can be charged by using Juman in a public event with no authorization.
O Comando Militar da Amazônia, que está respondendo pelo caso, não soube dizer se Juma tinha ou não autorização para participar do revezamento da tocha e ressaltou que vai apurar.
The Millitar command of Amazonia, who is answering by the case, didn't know to say if Juma hador not authorization to participate of rotation of torch and resaid will investigate.
Morte de Juma causou comoção nos militares
"O exército está transtornado com morte dela. Cheguei em casa transtornado, muito triste com essa situação. Estamos todos muito abatidos. Foi uma fatalidade que jamais esqueceremos”, disse o coronel Luiz Gustavo Evelyn ao UOL Esporte. Segundo ele, o felino, que estava junto com os militares desde filhote, era parte da família.
Juma's death caused commotion in millitants
"The army is upset with her death. I went to home upset, very sad with this situation. We are very sad. It was a fatality that we will never forget", said the colonel Luiz to UOL Sport. According to him, the feline who was together with the millitant since puppy was part of family".
Juma era uma figura conhecida na cidade e participava de eventos como desfiles militares em datas comemorativas. O coronel diz não saber o que deu errado dessa vez.
Juma was a known picture in the city and used to participate of events like millitant parades in celebrate dates. The colonel said didn't know what was wrong in this time.
“Talvez no momento do transporte, colocar uma onça numa caminhonete não é uma coisa comum”, cogitou ele.
Maybe in the transport momement, put a ounce in a truck is not a common thing", he said.
"Fizemos o procedimento padrão, aplicamos tranquilizantes, mas como ela não se acalmou, tivemos que dar o tiro", disse o coronel. "Foi tudo para garantir a segurança do cuidador dela."
Com a repercussão de sua morte, os manauaras já se questionam sobre a relevância de exibir animais silvestres em situações assim.

O que disse o Ibama
Mario Reis, o superintendente do Ibama no Amazonas, disse à reportagem que “quantos menos exposição de animais silvestres, melhor”, mas ressaltou que não se pode demonizar o trabalho dos militares no cuidado com animais resgatados.
What Ibama said
Mario, the superintendent of Ibama in Amazonas, said to the report that "the less exposition of wild animals, the better it is", but he stressed that can't demonize the millitants' job in the caution of recued animals.
“Eles fazem um excelente trabalho lá”, disse Reis. “As pessoas acham que o zoológico pega o bicho e prende em cativeiro pra exibição, mas o que se faz na verdade é cuidar de animais que muitas vezes não conseguiriam viver na natureza.”
They made an excellent job there", said Reis. The people think zoo catch the animal and arrest in captivity for exhibition, but the true is to take care of animals which the majority of the time couldn't adapt to live in nature.
O órgão, porém, afirma que já questionou oficialmente o Exército sobre as participações das onças-pintadas em eventos públicos.

A tocha causou estresse em Juma?
Ainda não se sabe exatamente como o evento afetou o comportamento da onça, e se isso a teria levado a uma situação de estresse. Uma bióloga especialista em animais silvestres resgatados disse ao UOL Esporte que a aglomeração de pessoas, o barulho e até a chama olímpica (animais costumam ter medo de fogo) podem ter influenciado no comportamento de Juma.
Did the torch cause stress in Juma?
They still don't know exactly how the event affected the ounce's behavior, and if it would lead to a situation of stress. A biologic specialists in wild rescued animals said to UOL Sport that the overcrowding, the noise and until the Olympic flame (animals used to be afraid of fire) can have influenced in the behavior of Juma.
