Na última quarta-feira (27) o IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística) lançou em seu portal o "Nomes do Brasil", uma ferramenta online que apresenta algumas estatísticas envolvendo os primeiros nomes de cada brasileiro. Com dados do Censo 2010, a página informa que os nomes mais comuns entre os brasileiros são Maria, com frequência de 11,7 milhões de pessoas, e José, com 5,7 milhões de pessoas.
Last Wednesday (27th), IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistic) released in its portal the "Names of Brazil", an online tool which shows some statistics involving the first names of each brazilian. With data of sense 2010, the page reports the name of most common among brazilians are Maria, with the frequency of 11,7 million of people and Jose with 5,7 million of people.

Para usar a ferramenta, basta acessar a página, digitar seu nome na busca e ver os resultados. Há ainda as opções de filtros por sexo e por Estado brasileiro. Mas após matar a curiosidade sobre seu nome, ou mesmo de seus familiares e amigos, vale a pena brincar um pouco com a ferramenta e experimentar alguns nomes mais inusitados e absurdos. Os resultados atestam a invencionice do brasileiro para batizar suas crianças.

É importante lembrar, porém, duas informações sobre a ferramenta. A primeira é que as formas variantes dos nomes foram contabilizadas via entrevista do recenseador ou pelo próprio dono do nome via internet; ou seja, pode ter muito nome que foi escrito errado por um ou pelo outro.

A segunda coisa é que a busca só apresenta resultados para nomes cuja frequência é maior ou igual a 20 para o total no Brasil. Para o Estado selecionado, se exige uma frequência de pelo menos 15 nomes iguais; para os municípios; ao menos 10 nomes. Ou seja, deve haver muito mais nomes incomuns pelo país afora que a ferramenta do IBGE não mostra por, digamos, "falta de quórum".
The second thing is that the search only shows the results for names whose frequency is bigger or equal to 20 for all the country. For the selected state, it demands a frequency of at least 15 same namges; for the municipes; at least 10 names. In conclusion, there have to be much more uncommon names by the country outside than the IBGE's tool doesnt show by, we say "lack of quorum".
