Perda de memória e envelhecimento acelerado: os danos que a obesidade causa ao cérebro

Lucy Cheke e seus colegas na Universidade de Cambridge, no Reino Unido, recentemente convidaram um grupo de voluntários para fazer uma espécie de "caça ao tesouro" em seu laboratório.
Os participantes navegavam em um ambiente virtual a partir de uma tela de computador, escondendo vários objetos pelo caminho. Em seguida, tinham de responder a uma série de perguntas para testar o quanto se lembravam do que tinham acabado de fazer.
Ao analisar o que pode ter influenciado o desempenho de cada um, seria mais lógico imaginar que Cheke estaria mais concentrada no QI do participante do que no tamanho de sua barriga.
Lucy Cheke and her colleagues of the University of Cambridge, in the UK, recently invited one group of volunteers to do a kind of treasure hunt in her lab.
The participants were surfacing in one virtual environment from one computer screen, hiding a lot of objects by the path. After that, they had to answer one series of questions to test how much they remember what they had just done.
When analysing what can influence the performance of each one, it would be more logic to imagine that Checke would be more concentrated in the participant's IC than the size of its belly.

Obesidade e 'idade mental'
Cheke partiu da hipótese de que a obesidade poderia afetar a capacidade de imaginação, pois outros estudos já comprovaram existir uma relação entre a memória e a imaginação - nosso cérebro tende a unir fragmentos de lembranças para prever como serão eventos no futuro.

Menos memória, mais quilos

Centenas de pessoas foram retiradas em ônibus e ambulâncias de um enclave dominado pelos rebeldes na cidade síria de Aleppo.

Mas com as forças rebeldes, grupos jihadistas e curdos ainda controlando grandes partes da Síria, pode ser que a guerra continue por muito tempo. Então, há a possibilidade de o conflito se tornar um outro tipo de guerra - em que os rebeldes não estão tentando assegurar territórios, mas sim praticando um tipo de insurgência que ataca e recua rapidamente.

Antes do início do conflito, muitos sírios se queixavam de um alto nível de desemprego, corrupção em larga escala, falta de liberdade política e repressão pelo governo Bashar al-Assad - que havia sucedido seu pai, Hafez, em 2000.
Um março de 2011, adolescentes que haviam pintado mensagens revolucionárias no muro de uma escola na cidade de Deraa, no sul do país, foram presos e torturados pelas forças de segurança.

In March of 2011, teenagers that have painted revolutionary messages in one wall of a school in the city of Deraa, in the South of country, were arrested and tortured by the forces of securty. The fact provoked protests by more liberties in the country, inspired in the Arabe Sprin - popular manifestations in that moment were extende dby the countries in the region.
When the forces of Syrian security opened fire against the activists - killing many of them - the tensions were increased and more people left to the streets. The manifestations asked the exit of Assad. The governement's respost was smother the divergencies, what reinforced the determination of manifestants. In the end of July in 2011, hundreds of thousands left to the streets in all country requiring the exit of Assad.

Simpatizantes do grupo antigoverno começaram a pegar em armas - primeiro para se defender e depois para expulsar as forças de segurança de suas regiões.

Advogados do ex-presidente dizem que ele é vítima de "um histórico de perseguição e violação às garantias fundamentais pelo juiz de Curitiba".
"Nem mesmo os defeitos formais da peça acusatória e a ausência de uma prova contra Lula, como amplamente reconhecido pela comunidade jurídica, impediu que o referido juiz levasse adiante o que há muito havia deixado claro que faria: impor a Lula um crime que jamais praticou", afirmaram na ocasião os advogados Cristiano Zanin Martins e Roberto Teixeira.

"A publicidade infantil movimenta bilhões de dólares e é responsável por considerável aumento no número de vendas de produtos e serviços direcionados às crianças. No Brasil, o debate sobre a publicidade infantil representa uma questão que envolve interesses diversos. Nesse contexto, o governo deve regulamentar a veiculação e o conteúdo de campanhas publicitárias voltadas às crianças, pois, do contrário, elas podem ser prejudicadas em sua formação, com prejuízos físicos, psicológicos e emocionais.
The child publicity moves billion of dollars and is responsible for the considerable increase in the number of sales of products and services related to the children. In the Brazil, the debate about child publicity represents one questions that involve diverse interests. In this context, the government should regulate the veiculation and content of advertising campaign related to children, because, on the contrary, they can be harmed in their formation, with physical prejudice, psychological and emotional.

Em primeiro lugar, nota-se que as propagandas voltadas ao público mais jovem podem influir nos hábitos alimentares, podendo alterar, consequentemente, o desenvolvimento físico e a saúde das crianças. Os brindes que acompanham as refeições infantis ofertados pelas grandes redes de lanchonetes, por exemplo, aumentam o consumo de alimentos muito calóricos e prejudiciais à saúde pelas crianças, interessadas nos prêmios. Esse aumento da ingestão de alimentos pouco saudáveis pode acarretar o surgimento precoce de doenças como a obesidade.

This increase of ingestion of food fewer healthier can lead to the early appearance of diseases such as obesity.


Em segundo lugar, observa-se que a publicidade infantil é um estímulo ao consumismo desde a mais tenra idade. O consumo de brinquedos e aparelhos eletrônicos modifica os hábitos comportamentais de muitas crianças que, para conseguir acompanhar as novas brincadeiras dos colegas, pedem presentes cada vez mais caros aos pais. Quando esses não podem compra-los, as crianças podem ser vítimas de piadas maldosas por parte dos outros, podendo também ser excluídas de determinados círculos de amizade, o que prejudica o desenvolvimento emocional e psicológico dela.

Em decorrência disso, cabe ao Governo Federal e ao terceiro setor a tarefa de reverter esse quadro. O terceiro setor – composto por associações que buscam se organizar para conseguir melhorias na sociedade – deve conscientizar, por meio de palestras e grupos de discussão, os pais e os familiares das crianças para que discutam com elas a respeito do consumismo e dos males disso. Por fim, o Estado deve regular os conteúdos veiculados nas campanhas publicitárias, para que essas não tentem convencer pessoas que ainda não têm o senso crítico desenvolvido. Além disso, ele deve multar as empresas publicitárias que não respeitarem suas determinações. Com esses atos, a publicidade infantil deixará de ser tão prejudicial e as crianças brasileiras poderão crescer e se desenvolver de forma mais saudável."

The third sector composed by associations that search organises themselves to get improvements in the society - must conscientize itself, by means of lectures and groups of discussion, the parents and family members to discuss with them about the consumerism and the detrimental effects about this. Lastly, the state should regulate the contents regarding the advertising campaigns, for that these do not try to convince people that still don't have a critical sense developed. Beyond this, he should fine the advertising companies that do not respect its determinations. With these acts, the children publicity will not be so detrimental and the Brazilian children will be able to grow and developed themselves in a healthier way.

Não que elas consigam distinguir os traços cubistas ou paisagens ligeiramente desfocadas. Afinal, são criaturas cujos cérebros são menores do que uma cabeça de alfinete. Mas, devidamente treinadas, elas podem distinguir entre os dois artistas através de diferentes misturas açucaradas que pesquisadores colocaram por trás dos quadros.

A história do americano Chris Gardner virou um filme que rendeu a segunda indicação do ator Will Smith ao Oscar, The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) - no Brasil, À Procura da Felicidade. Mas, mesmo depois de enriquecer de forma tão impressionante e virar um personagem conhecido mundialmente, ele largou tudo e voltou a se reinventar.
Sua saga inicial começou na San Francisco da década de 1980. Aos 27 anos, desempregado e abandonado pela mulher, ele foi morador de rua por um ano, dormindo com o filho pequeno, Chris Jr., em abrigos da igreja, bancos de praças e banheiros públicos nas estações de trem.
A vida mudou quando ele teve a chance de participar do programa de estágio da corretora de valores Dean Witter Reynolds (DWR).

Aos 62 anos, Gardner tem hoje uma fortuna estimada em US$ 60 milhões (cerca de R$ 209 milhões).

Ele conseguiu sair da prisão e foi direto para lá, usando as mesmas roupas com as quais tinha ficado na cadeia.

Hoje ele passa 200 dias por ano viajando pelo mundo e falando para auditórios lotados em mais de 50 países. Além disso, patrocina várias organizações que ajudam os sem-teto e combatem a violência contra as mulheres.
Scott Burns, diretor da corretora americana Morningstar, afirma que Gardner "é uma incrível demonstração de fortaleza".
Gardner afirma desmentir a teoria de que todos somos produto do ambiente em que vivemos na infância.
