Começam nesta segunda-feira (25) os testes em humanos com a fosfoetanolamina, o composto que ficou conhecido como a "pílula do câncer". As atividades estarão concentradas no Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo, e a substância será utilizada por 10 pacientes.

Esse primeiro grupo determinará a segurança da dose, e se não houver efeitos colaterais, a pesquisa muda de fase, abrangendo mais 200 pacientes.
Serão avaliadas as reações em dez tipos de câncer: cabeça e pescoço, mama, pulmão, colo, fígado, pâncreas, melanoma, estômago, colo uterino e próstata. Os testes devem avançar e, se os resultados obtidos nas fases forem positivos, mil pessoas participarão do processo, recebendo doses da pílula.

Para o governador de São Paulo, essa fase é fruto de trabalho dos pesquisadores e vem sendo aguardada com muita expectativa. "Primeiro houve aprivação pela Faculdade de Medicina e depois agora pela Conep. E começa o trabalho na segunda-feira. Estamos com bastante esperança que isso possa trazer um avanço no tratamento", disse Geraldo Alckmin.
Os testes com 210 pacientes devem durar seis meses, e só começaram após aprovação da Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa do Ministério da Saúde. Paulo Hoff, oncologista e diretor-geral do Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo, descreveu como será o procedimento: "benefício tende a acontecer nos primeiros dois a quatro meses. Pacientes que não tiverem benefícios em quatro meses, dificilmente apresentarão benefício tardio. isso para qualquer tipo d etratamento contra o câncer. Mas vamos dar ao produto toda a possibilidade para que mostre o benefício, o tempo que for necessário".

Daniel Macedo defendeu que os testes clínicos sejam realizados de forma séria para constatar a segurança da "pílula do câncer": "não estou dizendo que a fosofetanolamina é a cura do câncer. Não estamos afirmando o abandono dos tratamentos convencionais. O que queremos é que ocorra os testes clínicos, com credibilidade".

A Furp (Fábrica de Remédios do Governo do Estado), encaminhou para os testes no Icesp a substância sintetizada em um laboratório de Cravinhos. Segundo o governo, o pesquisador da USP de São Carlos, Gilberto Chierice,que iniciou a produção da substância, acompanha essa fase de testes.
