O pássaro ainda era filhote quando caiu do ninho e foi adotada por uma família na Austrália. Mas foi ele, batizado Pinguim, quem salvou a família inteira.
A ave chegou à casa dos Bloom quando Sam enfrentava seus pensamentos mais sombrios. Ela havia caído de um terraço e perdido os movimentos do corpo - do queixo até os pés. Entrou em uma profunda depressão.

Ao chegar num hospital maior, distante quatro horas de carro do hotel, apresentava um quadro grave. Sua pressão arterial era fraca demais para uma cirurgia, seu crânio estava fraturado em diferentes lugares, o cérebro sangrava, os dois pulmões estavam perfurados e a coluna, seriamente machucada logo abaixo das omoplatas.
When she woke up, Sam was in a stretcher. She saw the doctors seeing an X-RAY and balancing negatively the head.
When she arrived in a bigger hospital, far four hours by car from hotel, she was presenting a serious condition. Her arterial pressure was too weak for a surgery, her cranium was fractured in different place, the brain was blooding, the two lungs were perforated and the column, was seriously injured bellow the omoplatas.
